Grow is very happy to announce that Ian Sloan is joining the national Board of Grow. Ian is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has considerable experience in business and technology and has worked with government, private business and other not for profit businesses. Ian is the Managing Director of DSBS IT Consulting and Contracting.
Leonie Young, Grow chairperson and past CEO of beyondblue, welcomed Ian to the Board and stated “Ian’s expertise will be invaluable to Grow especially as we begin piloting the delivery of our Grow Groups on-line and move to the next phase of our national IT strategy. Ian’s business acumen and board experience will add great value to an already vibrant and progressive board.”
Grow was established in 1957 by people with a mental illness at a time when there was no real sense of recovery from mental illness. Our founders used their personal experience of mental illness to support each other and help each other recover. This was the beginning of mutual help and peer support in Australia. Grow is Australia’s only national consumer led organisation and provides important leadership to the mental health sector in the area of mutual help and peer support groups. Today Grow operates 200 groups nationally including programs specific to people in schools, in prison and for carers.
